Tell us about your business/organization and what makes you stand out as an employer?
The Conseil scolaire acadien provincial (Acadian school board) is Nova Scotia’s only francophone school board, offering a quality education to over 5,000 students from grades primary to 12, in addition to offering a French pre-school program, Grandir en français.
CSAP has a legal linguistic and cultural mandate in the Education Act, and as such, all employees must have the ability to effectively communicate and assume their responsibilities in French.
How many employees do you have?
CSAP currently employs 288 full-time support staff, 70 part-time support staff, and 372 casual support staff.
We also employ 491 full-time teaching staff, 17 part-time teaching staff, and 249 substitute teachers.
What do you look for in a new employee?
Qualifications vary according to position. We require that all staff be able to effectively communicate orally in French (ex. custodians, bus drivers) and that other staff be able to function in a French environment – oral and written.
We seek individuals with a passion for education and for assisting children in their growth and learning. Teamwork, respect, reliability, punctuality, and a passion for Acadian and Francophone culture are significant attributes.
What advice would you give someone who wants to work for your organization?
We would urge them to visit one of our schools or board offices to speak with school principals and/or vice-principals regarding employment opportunities. There is no better option for making an impression than a face-to-face introduction! For our school and office locations, visit http://www.csap.ca/ and click on ‘Nous joindre’ in the menu at the top of the page. You may also communicate directly with Bruce Joshua, HR Coordinator at (902) 226-5234 or via e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org .
Do you anticipate hiring in the next 6 months? If so for what types of positions?
We anticipate hiring employees from all categories over the next six months, and beyond. Our positions include bus drivers, janitors, teacher assistants, pre-school assistants, secretarial positions, teachers, and administrators. We are actively seeking to increase the number of candidates on our casual/substitute list, these positions potentially leading to full-time employment.
We are actively seeking individuals to fill substitute teaching roles. For persons who do not possess a Bachelor of Education degree, but have completed a university degree (Bachelor’s degree) in a given field, they may contact our HR office so we can assist them in obtaining a special teaching permit which is valid for the school year in which it is obtained.
