Casual Cook

When: Immediately


The Cook is responsible to the Dietary Supervisor for the preparation of meals, including baked goods in sufficient quantities to satisfy requirements for the day


Journeyman Cook papers

Must have knowledge and practice sanitation and safety measures needed for working in a commercial kitchen

Food Handlers Course

Knowledge of special diets EX: Diabetic, Low fat, and high fibre etc.


  • Preparation of meals with assistance of the Dietician and Supervisor
  • Occasionally assuming the responsibilities of the Dietary Supervisor
  • Proper utilization of food with consideration for costs and incorporating left over food
  • Assisting in preparation of special catering functions
  • Regular cleaning of various equipment and appliances
  • Must exhibit knowledge and practice universal safety precautions


  • Must be physically able to perform duties with minimum supervision
  • Must be able to work under stress and demonstrate maturity, flexibility and leadership
  • Must have good work ethic, reliable
  • Must work well with others in a team environment
  • Must possess good organizational skills, written and verbal
  • Must exhibit empathy and understanding to residents of a long term care home
  • Experience using a COMBI oven would be an asset
