Position: Commissionaire (Security Officer)
Location: Across Nova Scotia (HRM, Annapolis Valley/South Shore, Cape Breton, Northern District (Truro area)
Reports to: Site Supervisor or District Manager
Responsible for: The security and safety of people, property, and information
Working Hours: Rotating 8 to 12 hour Shifts, Various Hours and Days of the Week, Full-time, Casual and Seasonal Employment

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • While Duties vary by assignment, the duties and responsibilities inherent in this security-related role may include, but are not limited to:
  • Emergency Management
  • On-foot perimeter and search patrols, inside and out-of-doors in all environmental conditions
  • Alarm and Security System monitoring and response
  • Concern for the health and safety of self and others in the workplace
  • Adherence to CNS’ health, safety, environmental and quality policies and systems and practices
  • Adherence to CNS’ Policies, Site Work Instructions, and Site Supervisor’s direction
  • Functions include Security Officers, Mobile Patrol, Reception and Administration, Client Site Access Control
  • Qualifications & Skills Sought: The role of a Commissionaire requires both physical and mental fitness, as the level of responsibility to ensure security is high, and often involves work in all types of environmental conditions, at all times of the day or night

Qualifications for Success in this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Education, experience, or interest in law enforcement, CAF, or security is an asset
  • Graduate of a college/university security-related program is an asset
  • Bilingualism (French/English) is an asset
  • Computer literacy, and/or an aptitude to learn is an asset
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, prioritize, and adapt to change
  • Ability and willingness to successfully obtain a first aid certificate
  • Ability and willingness to successfully complete CNS’ Security Officer Course
  • Demonstrated professionalism and sound judgment
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Possession of a valid and clean Nova Scotia driver’s license, or access to reliable transportation
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance
  • Willingness to contribute to a team

Physical fitness to include:
o Ability to navigate multiple flights of stairs with ease
o Ability to navigate uneven terrain to conduct foot patrols in all weather conditions
o Good dexterity and balance
o Good vision and hearing
o Superior attention to detail, including ability to hear, observe, or smell changes to the work environment

Mental alertness to include:
o React calmly, quickly and appropriately in a crisis situation
o Ability to concentrate for a period of up to 12 hours
o A good memory and ability to communicate observed characteristics/behaviours
o Demonstrated sound judgement and problem-solving ability
o Ability to remain alert for up to 12 hours
