Concrete Former / Carpenter

The Town of New Glasgow Transportation Division has an immediate opening for a concrete former / carpenter. Candidates must have a minimum of five (5) years’ experience forming, placing and finishing concrete. Demonstrated experience in the carpentry trade is mandatory with certification being a preference. Candidates must be able to set grades, plan and estimate municipal concrete projects. Must be familiar with all tools of the trade and be competent with the use of laser levels. Candidates must possess a strong work ethic and be a versatile employee that adapts well to chnage. A Valid Nova Scotia Driver’s License Class 3 with endorsements for air brakes would be considered an asset. Familiarity with municipal winter operations and equipment certifications also considered as an asset. The successful candidate shall have a minimum Grade 12 education, a clean driver’s abstract, valid WHMIS, and valid first aid training. Candidates must provide their own approved safety footwear. All other personal protective equipment will be provided by the Town.

This is a physically demanding job in which overtime work will be required. This position is a permanent classification with a probation period of six months, as per the Collective Agreement. This is a unionized position, non-supervisory role with remuneration as per the Collective Agreement between the Town of New Glasgow and CUPE Local 281.
