Location of work: St. Mary’s River Association, Sherbrooke, Guysborough County, Nova Scotia. (8404 Highway #7)

Term of employment: June 25, 2018- August 17, 2018

Number hours worked per week: 35 hours

Wage: $11.00/hr

Specifically, the employees will:

  • Compile and summarize documents on natural history of St. Mary’s River watershed and history of salmon fishing on the river
  • Create a new display about historic uses of the watershed and/or history of salmon fishing on the river and/or current restoration work on the river
  • Develop and administer educational programs/activities for adults and/or youth
  • Complete other duties as assigned
  • Also, the employees will: Update social media sites with current events – Promote SMRA via the internet – Update daily/ weekly SMRA web site – Participate in marketing/promotional events to promote SMRA including but not limited to parades/booths/community events – Create promotional material – Write bi- weekly articles for local newspapers – If necessary, promote SMR on local radio – Other duties as required including mowing and cleaning – Acting as Museum Interpretive Guide – Manage gift shop including promotion and sales

This position is for a historical researcher/marketing assistant who will spend time assisting with ongoing research and marketing efforts of the SMRA and on independent research of existing documents and current marketing indicatives.

Qualifications:

  • A college or university student returning to school in September 2018
  • Preferably a marketing student
  • Social media experience (Facebook/twitter/google plus)
  • Willingness to work independently
  • Current first aid certification
  • Ability to research and find information in a variety of libraries and databases
  • Competence with standard software packages (Microsoft Word and Excel)
  • High quality writing skills
  • Writing experience would be an asset
  •  Preference will be given to applicants with own vehicle
  • Must be willing to work weekends
  • Willingness to work overtime as necessary
  • Overtime will be compensated by equal time off in lieu
